Teeno, originally from Federal Way, Washington, has embarked on a mission to give back to the Polynesian community by launching his entertainment company, PlayForKeeps Entertainment. After moving to Utah three years ago, he noticed the slower pace compared to his hometown, but that hasn’t slowed down his ambition.
Building PlayForKeeps Entertainment
Teeno’s journey in the entertainment industry began with a vision to create opportunities for Polynesian youth through shows and events. His upcoming show in Utah this August marks the debut of PlayForKeeps Entertainment, a company inspired by his belief in giving everything your all. “If you’re going to shake the dice, you better shake it for it all,” Teeno shares, explaining the meaning behind the company’s name.
Supporting Diverse Polynesian Artists
PlayForKeeps aims to showcase the diversity of Polynesian artists beyond the popular island reggae genre. Teeno is excited to feature indie band Roses on the Moon and R&B/hip-hop artist Tasi1k in his first show.
A Journey of Inspiration
Teeno’s passion for entertainment was ignited through various experiences. While partnering with his brother-in-law, Nanukuttz, he encountered inspiring figures like Drew Deezy and Yung LB. They emphasized the importance of stepping out of comfort zones, leaving a lasting impact on his journey.. A pivotal moment for Teeno was attending a Common Kings concert in San Diego, where he was deeply moved by the energy and dedication of their manager, Tautua Reed. “Seeing Tautua in front of 11,000 people, happy and fulfilled, pushed me to get to work,” he recalls.
“Polynesian artists make different kinds of music,” he emphasizes, “and they deserve to be seen and heard.”
Future Goals and Community Impact
Teeno’s goals extend beyond individual shows. He aspires to hold charity events and eventually organize a large festival in Utah, similar to those in the Bay Area, Southern California, Seattle, and Hawaii. His vision is to provide a platform for talented artists to gain recognition and inspire the youth. “What you do today reflects your future,” Teeno says, underscoring his commitment to purpose-driven action.
