He popped up on the video chat with his blacked out shades and good energy. I was excited to learn more about JayRome in this interview, because I have been loving the rise of Pacific Islander talent exploring and creating new sounds in this generation. If you haven’t heard of JayRome yet, he has a West Coast flow and sound. He takes insight and wisdom from his big brother in the music space Taiojr who shares a similar but different taste of musicality.

JayRome is half Tongan and half Samoan from West Valley City, Utah, where he is still residing. After a gnarly ACL injury in high school, a physical tragedy turned into a musical blessing as JayRome found his new passion for music. Only 23 years old, JayRome exudes maturity not only in his music, but in the way he carries himself.

As we were getting to know JayRome and we were chatting about his music career, he was dropping bombs of nuggets on us. We didn’t have enough fingers to type them all out. However, one of my favorite parts of the interview is when he touched on the challenges he has faced and how he overcame it. JayRome vulnerably shared how when he first started music he was seeking a lot of external validation. The external validation from people was fueling his confidence in his music, but it eventually got to a point where he realized the validation has to come from within. The confidence has to come from you.

“Just start and when you’re starting off, your confidence has to be delulu.”

JayRome

A lot of JayRome’s musical growth has stemmed from him understanding “I gotta love my art more than anybody else does and so you kind of just have to shift that mindset.”

Unlike many artists, JayRome takes an organic approach to his music. He values on moving with integrity and staying true to his morals. With that, every release and project drop, JayRome takes it as it is and only releases when he feels led to. He thrives in the spontaneous drops and unintentionally keeps his fans on their toes as they patiently and eagerly wait for his next projects. He surrendered the idea of wanting fame and money, and now, as much as he would love to make music his full time career, the most important aspect for JayRome is to be the best version of himself mentally, spiritually, and physically. “I feel like when you move with integrity, you’ll find yourself in positions that are meant to be for you.”

JayRome has been making his mark in the music space by staying true to himself and he urges other aspiring artists to “Just Start.” It is okay to make mistakes because you’ll learn from them, so he says “Just start and when you’re starting off, your confidence has to be delulu.” JayRome explained to us he was able to release his music and be unapologetic about it, because he was confident in his music, despite if it was good or bad, JayRome had the faith in himself to put his music out to the public.

Make sure you follow JayRome to be one of the first to know about his upcoming projects.
